Adolescent Programs

Jefferson County Youth Alcohol Intervention Program (YAIP)

If you have been issued a citation for an alcohol possession/consumption offense, a possession of drug paraphernalia offense, or a misdemeanor drug related offense, and if you are a first time offender under the age of 21, you may be eligible to avoid the court process and the possible consequences of conviction by attending a specially designed education program.

This program DOES NOT apply to DUI, DWAI, or WEAPONS related alcohol or drug offenses.

  • Call 303.278.0418 to schedule times to attend the education program. (3 sessions, total of 8 hours) Classes are generally scheduled three or more weeks from the time that you call to register. If you receive the voice message system, please leave a detailed message with your name, age, and phone number. Calls are returned during normal business hours.

Classes Are Generally Held:
Class I - Thursday 5-7pm
Class II - Saturday 9am-1pm
Class III - Monday 5-7pm

  • If you are under age 18, one parent must attend both the Thursday and Monday classes. (total of 4 hours)
  • Cost of the program is $120 to be paid the first class with cash or check made payable to Counseling Center of Golden. Arrangements may be made for later payments at the first class.

When you successfully complete the program you will receive a certificate of completion that you MUST take to the court location found on the citation. The court will then drop the charge of consumption of alcohol, posession of drug paraphernalia, or misdemeanor drug related offense. Then you will not have a criminal/juvenile record showing a conviction for the offense.

If you DO NOT successfully complete the program, you must appear on the arraignment date as specified on your citation to enter a plea to the alcohol or drug related charge.

Should you be found guilty of the violation charged:

  • Your driver's license will be subject to revocation.
  • You will have to pay fines and fees. Normally the fines and fees associated with a conviction for the offense would exceed the $120.00 program fee.
  • In addition, you may have to fulfill other Court imposed conditions (such as communitiy service, drug screenings or treatment program).

However, a modified 3 week format is available.
