Adolescent Programs

Jefferson County Youth Alcohol Intervention Program (YAIP)
The Jefferson County Youth Alcohol Intervention Program (YAIP) is designed to teach first-time offenders the dangers of all substance abuse, not just alcohol and marijuana, but other drugs as well. The YAIP also serves the community as an education, prevention and intervention seminar for volunteers, JEFFCO Public Schools' students and parents.

4-Hour Alcohol and Marijuana Education Program
This one-session program educates about the dangers of alcohol and marijuana. It does not qualify for charges to be affected under YAIP, but is good for offenders other than MIP. Parents often send students to this class to learn about the dangers they are being exposed to every day.

Mental Health Programs

General Mental Health Counseling
We are living in a fast paced world, all trying to accomplish more and more. Most of us experience a certain amount of stress in our lives, our jobs or no job, education and grades, family issues, financial pressures, and other circumstances beyond our control. Lack of self confidence can keep us from taking positive steps in solving these problems. Our concerns can become fears which in turn become a force that disrupts our daily lives. It is at this point that we must seek support and treatment through effective counseling. We offer a self-explorative and personal growth counseling model that aids normal people in getting more from life and offers valuable tools that promote change.

Family Counseling
Most mental health professionals agree that family relations are the mainspring of human development. First, it is important to understand that the notions of family has expanded beyond the "traditional family system". Today's diverse families include the richness brought by single parent families, step or blended families, mixed marriage families, gay families, etc. When a family becomes overwhelmed with expected milestones, unexpected crises, or individual challenges; family counseling can help find solutions and cohesion amongst family members.

Trauma Recovery
Trauma comes in many different forms. It may be the result of earlier life experiences or a recent occurrence. Regardless of the trigger, there can be serious physical and psychological consequences. Survivors of trauma often experience distortion of emotional processing resulting in symptoms such as panic attacks, anxiety, stress, guilt, rage, fear, and disruption of relationships. Individuals in crisis need specialized interventions that are unlike other forms of therapy. Our trauma therapists in the Counseling Center of Golden have substantial training and offer a variety of techniques such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing).

Licensure and Internship Supervision
Our licensed therapists offer supervision for individuals seeking Professional Licensure in the mental health field. Internships are available for both bachelor's and master's level students. All internships are completed on site at the Counseling Center of Golden with the alcohol/marijuana intervention program and/or mental health counseling. The time frame of internships are adapted to fit the need of the intern student.
